Tórshavn-based P/F Atlantic Petroleum said on 30 September 2026 that it has submitted an application for an exploration and production licence in the Faroe Islands under the Open Door Licensing Regime. For a retail trader following the company, the immediate point is that Atlantic Petroleum is moving into a formal licensing process, not announcing a granted permit.

The company said the application was filed through an associated company that is currently under formation. Atlantic Petroleum said it will hold a 40% carried equity interest in that company.

Jarðfeingi, the Faroe Islands authority named in the filing, may grant a licence after a public notice has been issued saying an application has been received. The announcement also said other interested parties may apply for the same area, or parts of it, and that the deadline for those applications will be at least ninety days from the date of the public notice.
