Check a broker's licence before you fund an account

Check Broker

Methodology & trust

Read the evidence with its limits.

No broker score is published until a desk-checked record meets this standard. This is a research framework, not investment advice or a substitute for checking a regulator's register.

Overview

traderpublic publishes broker records with the source, the date it was read and a status where those are supplied. Some records are unchecked or incomplete. A score or ranking appears only on a record that supplies one, and a missing value is unspecified, not a finding. This page explains how to read a record and what to check for yourself.

How to read a record

Where a record shows a source, a date and a status, they appear with it. Where they are missing, treat the record as unchecked.

  1. Source

Trace each claim to a primary regulator register, official terms, or a dated editorial record.

  2. Review

Record when the source was checked and revisit material changes before a record can remain current.

  3. Compare

Apply the same criteria to every published record; missing evidence remains visible rather than becoming a score.

  4. Limit

State regional, account-type and evidence gaps. traderpublic does not infer that a broker is safe from limited information.

Current publication status

traderpublic currently has no desk-checked broker records and publishes no broker ranking. An absent record is not a positive or negative finding about a broker.

Six areas to assess

A checklist for reading any broker record. It describes what to check; it is not a scoring of the six areas.

  • Trust and regulation

    Licences and oversight

  • Costs and transparency

Fees and how clearly they are disclosed

  • Platforms and technology

    Trading software and tools

  • Products and markets

    Instruments a broker offers

  • Customer service

    Support channels and languages

  • User experience

Ease of use and account handling

Evidence behind each area

A record can hold each item in one of three states. The table lists what each area can cover; it shows no broker's result.

  • Published

A supplied fact is on the record, with its source where given.

  • Incomplete

Part of the evidence is on the record.

  • Not checked

Nobody has looked yet. Treat it as unknown, not as good or bad.

An empty cell means unspecified. This table shows the states an area can hold, not any broker's result.

What a published record can show

A record shows only what was supplied for it. Missing items are gaps, not findings.

  • The broker's name and the regulators it lists
  • The source it cites and the date that source was read, where supplied
  • Whether each item is published, incomplete or not checked

Listed alphabetically. This is a directory, not an editorial ranking. Not specified means our records do not carry that fact. It does not mean the broker lacks it.

Sources a record can cite

Ordered by how directly each can be checked.

  1. Regulator register

Where a licence can be checked

  2. Official broker terms

    Fee schedules and account terms

  3. Dated note

A dated editorial note, where one is supplied

Licence and regulation evidence

Where a licence is shown, it carries the regulator's name, the entity and the date the register was read, if supplied. Confirm it on the regulator's own register; the licence check explains how.

Cost information

Non-trading fees, where shown, come from the broker's own fee schedule with the date supplied. Spread and commission figures are not carried by these records, so those cells stay empty rather than estimated. Fees can change; confirm them with the broker.

Platform information

Platform information is not yet in a checked field, and traderpublic does not test platforms. Check the platforms and their terms on the broker's own website before you fund an account.

User feedback

Records here do not carry user reviews, ratings or feedback scores. Where a record shows a score, it is the score supplied with that record.

Updates and corrections

A record may show the date its source was read. Details can change and some records are not current, so confirm them on the broker's official website. For corrections, see the editorial policy.

Independence

How traderpublic handles independence, sponsorship and commercial relationships is set out on the trust and disclosure page.

Limits of the method

Records can be incomplete, unchecked or out of date, may not cover every region or account type, and are not investment advice. A missing field is a gap in the record, not a finding about the broker.

Pages that print a written-in value

Some category pages are named for a fact our research hub does not publish yet. Rather than leave those pages unbuilt or leave a suggestive blank, they show the shape of the column we will print when the field arrives, marked as written in. This list is generated from the pages themselves, not maintained by hand.

A written-in value never affects the order of any list, never appears in structured data or a page description, and is never a statement about a named broker. Licence numbers, regulator names, licence standing, desk-checked account terms and our published scores are never written in — those come from the research hub or they are not shown at all.

Frequently asked questions

Which broker is best?

There is no single best broker, only a better or worse fit for your own strategy and risk tolerance. This directory is alphabetical and does not rank brokers.

How should I choose a broker?

Start with regulation: look the firm up on the regulator's own register. Then compare account types, platforms and costs with what you need, and read the broker's official terms before you decide.

How current is the information here?

Each record shows the dates its source supplied, where there are any. Details can change at any time, so confirm them on the broker's official website before you decide.

How can I compare brokers?

Use the search and filters above to narrow the list, then read the summary table side by side. A field marked not published means our records do not carry it. It does not mean the broker lacks it.
