Top 5 Forex Brokers

Compare forex and CFD brokers by our published desk score, so you can pick a platform suited to how you trade.

Editorial note

Every broker below is a real, hub-published record with its own verification trail — not a locally invented profile. No advertiser pays for placement on this page, and the ranking is the published desk score alone; where a fact is not yet on our wire we say so instead of guessing.

Top 5 Brokers

The five highest-scoring broker records our desk has published this month.

Ranked by the traderpublic desk score published on each record. A tie is broken by the count of licences verified against a regulator's own register, then alphabetically. Records we have not scored are not ranked here — see the full list further down this page.

Structure and risk control come before the broker

Traders spend far more time comparing headline offers than reading the licence trail behind them, and it is usually the wrong trade-off.

Read moreShow less

A regulated firm with average conditions is a safer starting point than an unregulated one with an attractive spread. Once licensing is settled, execution quality, platform stability and cost structure are what you actually feel day to day — and none of that replaces a plan for how much you are willing to lose on a single trade.

About this Top 5

Picking a broker usually means reading a dozen open tabs, cross-checking licence numbers and trying to work out which claims are real. This page is our attempt to do that work once, honestly, rather than dressing up a sales page as a comparison.

Everything ranked below comes from our research hub: a broker record with a published desk score, a licence trail we checked against the regulator's own register, and the date we last touched it. Nothing here was written locally to fill a slot.

Trading conditions we have not measured — minimum deposit, spread, leverage, platform list — are marked as not published rather than guessed at or copied from a marketing page. A blank cell that pretends to be data is worse than an honest gap.

Read the licence trail before the score. A regulator's own register is the one thing on this page nobody at traderpublic wrote, and it is the part worth checking yourself.

Risk warning

Trading forex and CFDs carries a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail client accounts lose money. Consider whether you understand how these products work and whether you can afford the risk.

Overview of the top 5 brokers

  • Regulation and licensing. Confirm the firm is supervised by a regulator with real enforcement power, and check the licence yourself rather than trusting the logo.
  • Company history. A firm with a longer, checkable track record gives you more public record to judge it by than a brand-new entity.
  • Trading conditions. Spread, commission, leverage and execution model decide the real cost of trading — ask the firm directly for figures we have not yet published.
  • Trading platforms. Look for stability, charting depth and whether automated strategies are actually supported, not just advertised.
  • Customer support. Test the support channel before you fund an account, not after something goes wrong.
  • Independent reviews. Read more than one source, and weigh a licence check above any star rating.

How much money do I need to start trading?

Many brokers accept a deposit of $10 or less. The number that matters is not the minimum you are allowed to deposit, but the amount that lets you trade without risking more than you can afford to lose.

Read moreShow less — How much money do I need to start trading?

Many brokers accept a deposit of $10 or less. The number that matters is not the minimum you are allowed to deposit, but the amount that lets you trade without risking more than you can afford to lose.

Minimum deposit vs. practical starting capital

A low minimum deposit is a marketing figure, not a trading plan. A widely used rule of thumb is to risk no more than 1-2% of your account on a single trade, which means a $100 account limits you to roughly $1-2 of risk per position.

Risking no more than 1-2% per trade is what lets an account survive a losing streak instead of being wiped out by one.

Recommended starting capital by trading style

Different styles need different cushions:

Beginners
Start small, use a demo account first, and focus on execution and risk control before adding capital.
Day traders and scalpers
Frequent trades need a larger balance to absorb normal volatility without breaching your own risk limit.
Swing traders
Positions held for days or weeks are usually funded with a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
Long-term investors
Capital needs depend on position sizing and portfolio structure rather than how often you trade.

Whatever broker you choose, trade only with money you can afford to lose — leverage magnifies losses as fast as gains.

Which broker fits your needs?

New traders should prioritise safety and simplicity over any other feature.

Read moreShow less — Which broker fits your needs?

Beginners

New traders should prioritise safety and simplicity over any other feature.

  • A licensed broker supervised by a regulator with real enforcement power.
  • A demo account, so you can practise before risking real money.
  • A platform that is intuitive rather than merely feature-heavy.
  • A low minimum deposit, so early mistakes cost less.

Day traders and scalpers

Active trading rewards cost efficiency and speed over almost everything else.

  • Tight spreads on the pairs you actually trade.
  • Low, transparent commissions on high-frequency strategies.
  • Fast, consistent order execution.
  • An account type built for frequent in-and-out trading, not penalised for it.

Algorithmic traders

If you run automated strategies, platform compatibility decides whether your system can even run.

  • Confirmed support for MT4 or MT5, not just a mention on a marketing page.
  • A published API for advanced integrations.
  • Backtesting tools you can actually validate a strategy against.
  • Infrastructure the firm states clearly rather than promises informally.

Advanced investors

Experienced traders weigh execution depth and institutional tools over headline offers.

  • Direct market access where it is genuinely offered.
  • Advanced charting and order types beyond the retail default.
  • Lower costs at the volumes you actually trade.
  • Research and data depth that supports a professional process.

What do trading costs actually look like?

The spread is the gap between the bid and ask price, and it is the most common cost of a trade. It varies by account type, pair and time of day, so a single advertised figure rarely tells the full story.

Read moreShow less — What do trading costs actually look like?

Spreads

The spread is the gap between the bid and ask price, and it is the most common cost of a trade. It varies by account type, pair and time of day, so a single advertised figure rarely tells the full story.

Commissions

Some brokers charge a fixed commission per trade on top of a tighter spread, common on ECN-style accounts. Ask for the exact figure per lot rather than a general claim of being commission-free.

Per-lot fees

Certain account types charge a fixed fee per lot instead of a wider spread. The trade-off can favour high-volume traders and cost casual ones more, so compare it against your own trade size.

Non-trading fees

Overnight fees
Charged for holding a leveraged position past the end of the trading day.
Inactivity fees
Applied to accounts that sit unused for an extended period.
Currency conversion
Charged when you fund or withdraw in a currency different from your account's base currency.

Why the comparison matters

A headline spread is only part of what a trade costs: commissions and non-trading fees are added on top of it, and an account with a wider spread and no commission can work out lower overall. Add the parts together to get the total cost at the position size you actually trade, rather than comparing the figure on a homepage.

Trading platforms: MT4, MT5, cTrader and institutional venues

MT4 and MT5 remain the most widely used retail trading platforms, and MT5 is a separate product rather than a straightforward upgrade — strategies written for one do not run on the other without rework.

MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5

MT4 and MT5 remain the most widely used retail trading platforms, and MT5 is a separate product rather than a straightforward upgrade — strategies written for one do not run on the other without rework.

  • A large ecosystem of indicators and automated strategies.
  • Built-in strategy testing before you trade live.
  • A demo account on the same platform you would trade on.

cTrader

cTrader is popular with traders who prioritise execution transparency and algorithmic flexibility over the MetaTrader ecosystem's size.

  • Level II market depth.
  • C#-based automation for custom strategies.
  • A charting interface built around fast order entry.

Institutional-grade platforms

Larger firms sometimes offer a heavier platform aimed at traders managing bigger size, with deeper liquidity access and more advanced order types.

  • Execution stability under volume.
  • Multi-asset integration in one interface.
  • Order types beyond the retail default set.

Is trading risky?

Yes — leveraged trading in forex and CFDs can lose money quickly, and no broker can remove that risk, however good its execution.

Leverage magnifies both gains and losses; a small adverse move can significantly reduce your account.
Liquidity risk
Thinly traded pairs can slip in price during execution, especially in fast markets.
Counterparty risk
An unlicensed or poorly regulated firm adds a risk that has nothing to do with the market itself.
Event risk
Political and economic shocks can move prices faster than a stop order can fill.

How do I check whether a broker is regulated?

Look for the licence number and regulator name on the broker's own site.

  • Look for the licence number and regulator name on the broker's own site.
  • Open the regulator's public register directly and search the firm's legal name.
  • Confirm the licence is current and covers the entity actually holding your money.
  • Check the regulator's own warning list for the firm's name before you deposit.

How to avoid broker scams

Treat an unsolicited approach or a guaranteed-return promise as a warning sign, not an opportunity.

  • Treat an unsolicited approach or a guaranteed-return promise as a warning sign, not an opportunity.
  • Verify the regulator's licence yourself rather than trusting a badge on the broker's site.
  • Read independent research on the firm's history before you fund an account.
  • Be sceptical of any claim of certain profit — no legitimate broker can promise one.
  • Test a small withdrawal early, before committing more capital.
  • Confirm spreads, commissions, leverage limits and legal terms are disclosed clearly, not buried in fine print.

  • Regulation and safety

Look the firm's legal entity up on the regulator's own register, confirm the licence is current, and read what it permits, including whether it covers retail clients in the market you would trade from.

  • Total cost of trading

Read the published fee terms: spreads, commissions, swaps and non-trading fees. Note which account type and date each figure refers to, and compare costs at the position size you actually use.

  • Platforms and tools

Check the broker's documentation for the platforms, order types, charting and automation it actually offers, and note which features are optional or cost extra.

  • Deposits and withdrawals

Inspect the published deposit and withdrawal terms: methods, fees, limits and processing times, and whether a stated processing time is a target or a commitment.

  • Trader feedback

Check the evidence and the dates behind any feedback: who wrote it, whether it can be verified and how recent it is. Treat one complaint or one endorsement as a single data point, not a verdict.

  • Support and education

Review the documented support channels and hours, and whether the learning material is clear and correct, not only how much of it there is.

Conclusion

There is no single best broker — only a better or worse fit for your own strategy, risk tolerance and the trading conditions you actually need. The five records above are ranked on one thing only: the desk score we have published, with every unmeasured fact named rather than guessed.

Regulation, a checkable licence trail and transparent costs should outweigh a bonus offer or a headline leverage figure every time. A broker that is cheap to open an account with can still be expensive to trade with once real costs are counted.

Read the licence trail yourself before you fund an account, compare more than one source, and treat this page as a starting point for your own research rather than a final answer.

Frequently asked questions

Why only five brokers?

A record can only carry a numbered rank if our desk has published a score for it. Five happen to qualify today; the full list further up this page shows every published record, scored and unscored.

Is this list the same for every country?

Yes — we do not detect your location or reorder this page by it. If you want brokers filtered by where you can actually open an account, use Find My Broker instead.

Why do some fields say not published?

Because our research hub does not carry that field yet for these brokers. We would rather say so than guess a number or copy one from a marketing page.

Does a broker pay to appear here?

No. Nothing on this page is a paid placement, and the order comes from the published desk score alone.

How can I check that a broker is really regulated?

Ask for the licence number the broker publishes, then look that number up on the named regulator's own public register. Make sure the company name, the licence number and the entity you would be dealing with all match. A broker that will not say who regulates it is a reason to stop.

Does a higher score mean a broker is right for me?

Not necessarily. A score summarises only what our desk could measure and publish. It is not personal advice, and it cannot know your strategy, your experience or the costs that matter most to you, so use it as one input to your own comparison.

Is trading with a broker risky?

Yes. Leveraged products can move against you quickly, and you may lose some or all of the money you put in. Only trade with money you can afford to lose, and read the risk warning on this page and the broker's own risk disclosure before you fund an account.

Should I try a demo account first?

A demo account lets you practise with virtual money and learn a platform without risk. Results on a demo do not predict results with real money, because real trading adds costs, slippage and emotion. Use it to learn the tools, not to judge a broker.
