Gran Tierra Energy said Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis has ratified its onshore exploration, development and production sharing agreement for the Guba-Khazaryani region, the same contract area the company signed with the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 18 February 2026. The announcement was made on 5 October 2026.

For traders following energy names, the immediate takeaway is that Gran Tierra said the agreement has now passed the parliamentary step it was waiting on. The company also said it holds a 65% working interest in the onshore agreement in Azerbaijan.

Gran Tierra said it has completed flying its airborne digital full tensor gradiometry, or dFTG, survey in Azerbaijan. It said the programme covered 102 lines, or 5,775 line-kilometres, across a total area of 4,815 square kilometres.

The company said the dFTG information will be used to help define the geometry of sedimentary basins and fault-related structures that could trap oil and gas in the contract area. It said the information will be integrated with existing seismic and exploratory well data to help optimise future seismic acquisition areas and exploration and appraisal drilling locations.

Gran Tierra also said its corporate presentation has been updated on its website. In the same release, the company described itself as an independent international energy company focused on oil and natural gas exploration and production in Canada, Colombia and Ecuador, and said that after completion of the previously announced sale of its Colombian and Ecuadorian businesses, its operations will be focused on Canada and Azerbaijan.
